How rankings work
RankThisSite provides a convenient estimate of a domain's worldwide popularity, including smaller websites that conventional rankings may overlook. Rankings are based on public signals, not a direct count of every site's visitors.
For established domains: We display their published position in the Tranco composite domain-popularity ranking. Tranco combines multiple sources including browser usage, DNS activity, and backlinks. An exact Tranco position is not an exact ranking of visitor traffic.
For smaller sites: We estimate a relative rank using available sources such as Google Chrome UX Report (CrUX), OpenPageRank, Common Crawl, backlinks, and recorded organic search visibility. These are imperfect proxies for popularity, and different signals can disagree. Estimates carry lower confidence than a directly published Tranco position.
For parked or unfinished websites: A separate Domain Interest score may describe name characteristics and available attention signals. It is not a website-traffic rank.
If a site has no usable comparative evidence, we say so rather than assigning an arbitrary midpoint. Figures are compared with an estimated 305.3 million active websites. This reference population is itself an approximation, and ranks should not be interpreted as audited visitor or pageview counts.
Sources: Tranco, Google Chrome UX Report, OpenPageRank, Common Crawl and third-party search/backlink data when available. Our estimation methods and sources may change as the underlying data improve.
